Central Valley residents urged to protect outdoor plumbing from freezing tonight

Urgent Weather Message issued by NWS Hanford-San Joaquin 331 am PST Tues Jan 28
FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM PST WEDNESDAY...

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 expected in San Joaquin Valley. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

Visalia Municipal Airport is clear and sunny, 46 degrees with a daytime high near 57, the freeze warning applies to the central valley region tonight. Act now to protect outdoor plumbing as water pipes and valves that freeze can burst.

NWS has released a rainfall summary from the weekend showing Los Angeles County coast and metro areas as receiving the following precipitation amounts:
  • SANTA MONICA PIER................. 1.38 inches
  • CULVER CITY....................... 1.06 inches
  • BEVERLY HILLS..................... 1.02 inches
  • BEL AIR........................... 0.93 inches
  • HOLLYWOOD RESERVOIR............... 0.87 inches
  • LEO CARRILLO...................... 0.31 inches
This rainfall has mixed with ash and soil destabilized by the fires. The risk of mudslides remains, residents downhill of the burn scars have been urged to prepare for mud and debris by erecting barriers and packing a go-bag for readiness to evacuate.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office advice regarding windblown dust and ash, "small particles may cause irritation or exacerbate pre-existing health conditions, particularly for children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with heart or lung conditions." Residents are advised to take precautions to reduce exposure to airborne particulates, see the recommedations, here.

LA County Water District 29 - Malibu: Do not use tap water order remains in effect. Bottled water is available 23533 West Civic Center Way daily from 10 am to 6 pm. A schedule of improvements to be completed by 2026 includes replacement of two water storage tanks, replacement of more than 6 miles of water lines and repair of creek crossings in the Malibu watershed. District 29 serves 20,000 residents through more than 7,500 connections, including 200-plus miles of pipeline in the distribution system. One primary water source fills 50 finished water storage tanks to meet peak demand for potable water in the district.
