Urgent Weather Message issued by NWS Hanford-San Joaquin 724 am PST Mon Jan 27

For the Dense Fog Advisory, visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. For the Freeze Watch, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 possible. Streamflow Situation from the network of US Geological Survey in California
Fog and 39 degrees at Visalia Municipal Airport, under a dense fog advisory until 11 am. The expected daytime high today 55 degrees with a freeze warning in effect overnight tonight. Los Angeles is back under a radio outage condition, NWS reports equipment offline. There is a 30 percent chance of showers this morning before 10 am, just a tenth of an inch possible. The day ahead will be mostly sunny with a high near 58. A slight chance of more showers tonight after 10, the west wind around 5 mph switching to northeast laster on in the evening.
Streamflows in through the Los Angeles Region 4 and Santa Ana watershed Region 8 have recovered with rains over the weekend, creating a new threat for residents downhill of the burn scars. Streamflow gauges currently recording seasonal normal to above normal water levels for the first time since the outbreak of wildfires. The heavy rain is now mixing with ash and soil destabilized by the fires, causing mudslides and debris flows transporting contamination from burned areas to lower elevations. Refer to announcements such as this one from Pasadena Water and Power, here. Be prepared for mud and debris slides, have a go-bag of essentials packed.
Last week the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office advised regarding windblown dust and ash having "small particles that may cause irritation or exacerbate pre-existing health conditions, particularly for children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with heart or lung conditions." Residents are advised to take precautions to reduce exposure to airborne particulates, here.
