Water levels above the seasonal average

Coastal Hazard Message issued by NWS San Francisco 449 am PST Fri Jan 3
BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM PST THISMORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING... ...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 AM PST SUNDAY...
Moderate to high risk of sneaker waves expected. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 18 to 25 feet expected on the Pacific Coast with the exception of Northern Monterey Bay. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Sneaker waves can sweep across the beach without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches. Sudden immersion in cold water can result in cold water shock even for the most experienced swimmers. Cold water shock can result in dramatic changes in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure, greatly increasing the risk of drowning in rough open waters.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river flow gauges in California
Streamflows continue above the 90th percentile through the North Coast Region 1 watershed heading into the first weekend of 2025. The south interior Lahontan and Colorado River watersheds remain in drought mode, extreme drought in southeast Inyo County is now joined by the remaining area of Inyo County and north half of San Bernardino County in moderate drought. The chance of rain rises to 50-50 tonight, before 10pm with widespread dense fog rolling in after 5 am. San Francisco has a current temp 53 degrees, the high just 58 ahead of a surf advisory coming into effect this evening, see below. Fair and 57 in Los Angeles, high 67 with the persistent air quality alert. Check for more information on the No Burn rule, here.

San Diego is 57 degrees, expecting a high near 65 with some sun.
