High flows in North Coastal watershed Region 1 and Colorado River watershed

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river flow gauges in California
Streamflows run above seasonal normal to much above normal, above the 90th percentile in the north coastal watershed Region 1. Six sites flooding on Saturday are back in the channels, three additional sites are still running 99th percentile high flows, see the map to the right, blue tags indicate those high flows.

Colorado River watershed is running uncommonly high flow levels Monday, a record high for this date recorded in the North Gila Main Canal near Yuma, AZ. The water levels here are controlled releases from the dams upstream. South interior California is rated with drought, the Amargosa River channel through Inyo remains in extreme hydrologic drought, the adjacent surface area of Inyo County now rated below normal. Adjacent surface area over the divide into the Colorado River watershed runs a below normal drought rating impacting San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial Counties. The 7-day average streamflows are measured against the historic average streamflow for this date, and a drought rating is given on that basis. The lower and longer duration of the low water levels result in a more serious drought rating, from below normal to moderate, to severe and the highest rating, extreme.

Hazardous Spill File from the records of California Office of Emergency Services
An unattended vessel adrift for several days off the San Diego coast has run up on the rocks and overturned, releasing an unknown amount of petroleum. The incident was reported December 12 in the vicinity of Cabrillo Memorial Drive.
