Post-cyclone Lane fizzles out as a new system tees up to drive at the west coast, 50-50 chance to develop in 48 hours

Tropical Weather Outlook issued by NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 400 AM PST Sun Nov 3 2024

For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude:

1. Southwest of Southwestern Mexico (EP93):
An area of low pressure located well to the south of the southern tip of Baja California is producing some disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for some additional development of this slow-moving small system, and a tropical depression could form over the next several days. The low is expected to begin an eastward drift in a few days.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...50 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.

Forecaster Bucci

Active Systems: Post-tropical cyclone Lane, now a tropical depression is located over the western portion of the eastern Pacific basin. At 700 AM PST (1500 UTC), the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Lane was located near latitude 11.1 North, longitude 132.0 West. The post-tropical cyclone is moving toward the west near 7 mph (11 km/h), and a slightly south of westward motion is expected for the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph (45 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is forecast, and the remnant low is expected to dissipate within the next couple of days or sooner.
