North Coastal Region 1 watershed streamflow levels dropping

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges in California
Mostly clear and sunny today for San Diego, more of the same in the Central Valley watershed region Friday. No hazardous weather and no tropical cyclone activity expected in the Pacific within the next 48 hours. National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL is tracking a disturbance in the Western Caribbean that has moved up from low risk to moderate risk overnight, a 50% chance of formation in the next 48 hours to Tropical Cyclone status. More to follow.

Streamflows in the north coastal Region 1 watershed have taken a down-turn overnight, the area recently tagged with severe drought may be on its way back to deeper drought conditions. Streamflows in Humboldt County have fallen below the 10th percentile again, streamflows throughout Mendocino are mostly below seasonal normal. San Francisco Bay Region 2 and Central Coast watershed Region 3 flows have shifted downward slightly, a combination of normal and above seasonal normal levels there. Los Angeles and San Diego watersheds run mostly above the 90th percentile, much above the seasonal normal with an increasing number of monitoring sites indicating below 10th percentile. Controlled releases on the Colorado River are in the low category at this report, this can change by the hour as water is released. New River runs extreme low, 1st percentile near Westmorland. See brown tags on the map to the right for the extreme low flows.

The drought map remains as reported yesterday, several watershed regions have an area rated below normal, including North Coastal watershed Region 1 southwest Humboldt County and coastal Mendocino County below normal, another patch in the north is below normal in west Siskiyou County. Central Valley Watersed Region 5 is below normal through east Shasta and west Lassen. Colorado River watershed Region 9 remains below normal through Lakeside, Imperial and San Bernardino Counties. No extreme high flows or flood events are recorded in the monitoring network as of this report.
